Why the PSPS?

The Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul (PSPS) at Yeungnam University was named after Park Chung Hee, former President of the Republic of Korea who led Korea into an unprecedented era of modernization by transforming it from a recipient of international aid to one a donor of international aid within a half century.

The PSPS offers master's degree programs in 'Saemaul Undong and Community Development', 'International Development Cooperation' in the Departments of Saemaul & International Development, 'Forest Resources and Ecological Restoration' and 'Environmental Management and Policy' in the Department of Sustainable Development and 'Public Policy and Leadership' in the Department of Public Policy and Leadership.

Yeungnam University is located within an hour’s drive from Gumi, Ulsan, Changwon and Yeosu which each encompass four major industrial complexes and Pohang, the home of POSCO. This enables the students to easily visit and participate in practical field training programs. The university is also located adjacent to the birthplace of President Park and Cheongdo, the birthplace of Saemaul Undong which allows the students to personally experience Saemaul Undong. Moreover, Yeungnam University is right at the center of three major traditional cultures: Buddhism, Confucianism and Gaya, making it an effective location for students to experience a variety of cultural perspectives and develop meaningful and sophisticated global awareness. With all these geographic advantages coupled with the people who are playing a leading role in the field of Saemaul Undong and the economic development of Korea, PSPS can offer a profoundly meaningful and realistic overview to its students. We can say with pride that the PSPS is a professional educational and research institute which fosters practical and theoretical talents by offering professional and hands-on curriculum-based know-how from 35 years of research and education in the field of Saemaul Undong. Graduates from the PSPS will play a crucial role in the development of their nations when they return to their home countries.

We invite you to the PSPS.
